HF nets are slower and more formal than local 2m club nets. Listen one full cycle before you transmit.
Typical check-in
“Net control, KI4TQN, Johnson City, Tennessee, no traffic” — then stop. Add traffic availability only if NCS requests it.
Traffic handling
Formal traffic uses radiogram format — radiogram worksheet. Comment nets are not the place for long situational narratives during activations.
Practice path
Start on Tennessee Phone Net or club nets listed regionally. Pair with VHF mobile layer in PACE. Role hub: HF traffic.
