ICS-214 Activity Log

ICS-214 is the unit activity log — a timestamped record of where you were, who you talked to, and what you did during an operational period. This offline log keeps that diary on the device and exports it into the incident packet.

Log entry

What belongs on ICS-214

Log arrivals, net check-ins, messages passed, location changes, safety issues, and demob. Use UTC or local time consistently (see the time utility) and name the incident the same way the incident workspace does so the export stitches together.

East Tennessee volunteers often log SKYWARN activations, NETNRC net times, and liaison with county EMA. Do not invent traffic that did not happen; a short honest log beats a padded one. Print or download before you clear browser storage.

Close-out sequence: finish ICS-214, update ICS-217 resource status, run ICS-221 demob, then export the packet. Walkthrough: demob workflow.

Common questions

What goes in ICS-214?

Timestamped activity log entries — who did what, where, and when during the op period.

Who signs ICS-214?

The unit leader or the individual operator for a single-resource assignment. Keep a copy; Planning may collect it at demob.

Can I use this instead of paper in the field?

Yes if the device stays charged. Many operators run the digital log and still keep a paper backup in the go-kit.
